I’ve said it before and I’ll probably say it again a million more times. But I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. I know some people think that this is a weird thing to say when there are so many shitty things happening in our lives all the time. Trust me, there is a method to my madness.

Around my office, there are signs that read “BELIEVE” and “Find the Beauty in Every Day,” because I need those constant reminders. Life isn’t always sunshine and rainbows - and I won’t always have my Unicorns there to whisper in my ear that life is great. So it’s up to me to remind myself of life’s beauty, even in the dark moments.

Sometimes it feels like the misery doesn’t stop coming - but sometimes, it’s because we are allowing ourselves to sit there and accept it. We aren’t taking time to recognize the beauty around us or actively deciding that we are going to find a way to get up, brush ourselves off, and get into a better situation. So how can you get to that place where you actually BELIEVE that things are happening for your highest and best good? Let me show you!

Seeing is Believing

The way to build that unshakeable belief that everything is happening FOR YOU instead of just “to you,” is by being thankful. Yeah, that’s it! Growth and gratitude go hand in hand. It’s all about a willingness to SEE the good that still exists around you. It’s one of those things that I had to learn the hard way but when I got out of my misery and the constant spiral of inaction and acceptance - everything changed.

After my youngest son got out of the hospital, I realized that I was done living a life of “not living.” We were all put here for a reason, to share our gifts and change the world. So I wasn’t going to waste any more time focusing on the darkness - it was time to find the LIGHT. I was thankful for the doctors, nurses, the people who came into our lives and gave their all to help us - and I let them know! You have to start doing the same thing. The people around you, who you are grateful for, may not KNOW the magnitude of their actions. So taking a moment to TELL THEM can make a huge difference in your life and theirs.

Let’s Get to the Next Level

This week, with the holiday here in the U.S., it’s EASY to feel into that gratitude. But why wait for one day every year to say what we are thankful for? Why not make “thanksgiving” a daily practice?

It’s important to take time each day to meditate and think back on all the things that have happened, the things you’ve survived and THRIVED through. Even if you’re a busy Mom, a neurodivergent entrepreneur, or an overthinker, you can do this! Take five minutes to OVERTHINK about all the things in your life that you are grateful for. Shift that energy and intention from worry to thankfulness.

  • Maybe it’s the fact that you had the balls to start a business in the first place…

  • Or that you found clients who gave you a chance to learn those new lessons and grow from those first mistakes…

  • Maybe, if you’re like me, you’re thankful for being fired because it forced you out of that “comfort zone” and helped you to challenge yourself to find more!

Whatever it may be, feel into that gratitude and let it spread into other areas of your life!

Write it Out

Journaling is something that so many people love. If you like writing, give it a try! It can be the perfect way to “brain dump” all the thoughts you have and highlight all the good things happening in your life. Then, on especially rough days, you can go back and read through what you’ve been thankful for in the past. The best part is… you don’t have to share these journal entries with anyone. We live in a digital age where everyone wants to know everyone’s business but it’s okay to be thankful in private.

YOU get to figure out your shit and discover what you feel comfortable sharing with the world. But until then, create a safe space for yourself inside the pages of your journal. Give yourself a chance to SEE where you’ve been, acknowledge the things that you have now, and be thankful for where you are going to be - because it’s not where you WERE.
